Instructions 1) Loading .Inp Chat Window Input Files Note: The .inp files MUST be in the \ctp_program\ctp directory. Start a new, random game with a map of the same size as this file and the number of Civs you wish to play with. Open the Cheat Menu, select Show Map, select Terrain, select Clear Terrain, wait about a minute for all Civs to finish clearing off, hit ' (apostrophe), this opens the Chat Window, click in the Chat Window input line, type /importmap mapname, ie., /importmap Wld1-70x140R.inp, wait 30 seconds, select Hide Map, select Reset LOS, select Show Map, you are now ready to finish the map in whatever way you choose. As a minimum, you must set the Start Locations for the number of Civs you have chosen. See Setting Start Location below. Then save as a Regular Map or Scenario Map, see below. 2) Loading .sav Saved Regular Map Files Note: Make a directory called Maps in \ctp_program\ctp\save\games and put all .sav files there. Start CTP, select New Game, select Load Saved Game, select the Maps directory, select the map you want to work with. You are now ready to finish the map in whtever way you choose. As a minimum, you must set the Start Locations for the number of Civs you have chosen. See Setting Start Locations below. Then save as a Regular Map or Scenario map, see below. 3) Changing the Number of Civs Edit Userprofile.txt in the \ctp_program\ctp directory. Change NumPlayers=XX to the number of players you want. Max is 32, 31 Civs and 1 Barbarian. Start a new game ignoring the number of Civs in the game setup options. You will now have xx number of Civs. 4) Changing CTP Map Sizes Edit Const.txt in the \ctp_data\default\gamedata directory. Near the bottom you will find the following: MAP_SIZE_SMALL 24 48 2 MAP_SIZE_MEDIUM 48 96 2 MAP_SIZE_LARGE 64 128 2 MAP_SIZE_GIGANTIC 70 140 2 Change MAP_SIZE_GIGANTIC 70 140 2 to MAP_SIZE_GIGANTIC xx yy 2 where xx is the width you want and yy is the height you want. Example to produce a 75x120 map change it to MAP_SIZE_GIGANTIC 75 120 2. Start a new game and select the Gigantic map size in the game setup options. This will produce the new map size. Technically, there is other text files which should be modified when you change map sizes. However, as long as you are using this to input maps via the chat window, this is all you need to do. 5) Setting Start Locations On the Cheat Menu, select Start Locs and then Select Location By Player or Select Location By Civ. By Player allows you to set the Starting Location for each Player regardless of which Civ it is while By Civ allows you to set the Starting Location for each Civ (up to 41) regardless of whether it is actually used in the game or not. Note: While you can set the starting location for up to 41 civs, you can only play with 32 Civs, including the Barbarians. For either option, click on the tile on the map where you want the Starting Location to be. Then select the plus (+) sign on the cheat menu - start locs to select the next available Civ/Player. Once this is done, click on the next tile on the map where you want that Civ/Player to start. Keep doing this until you have set all the Starting Locations you want to be set. 6) Saving Regular Maps Note: Do this first before you set or save the scenario name. Once the scenario name is set, this option will no longer function correctly (when trying to load the map). You will have to reload the map and start over from scratch. When you are done making all your changes, quit the game. Do this by selecting Options at the bottom of the Screen Options menu (not on the Cheat Menu). A menu will pop up asking if you want a) to quit now, b) to save game or c) never mind. Select b) save game and give it a directory and then a map name. Now you are ready to save the scenario if you want to. If you do not want to set a scenario, exit CTP completely before doing anything else. 7) Saving Scenario Maps Note: Only set and save the scenario one time per CTP session. You must completely exit CTP after setting/saving scenarios. When you are done making all your changes, select Save Scenario As from the Cheat Menu. (If you get an empty box, you have selected one of the Set Start Location Options but failed to actually set any starting locations. Go back and select your start locations or select No Start Locations, then continue.) The first box to pop up asks for a scenario name. Give it whatever you want. This is where I use Wld1-70x140R. The 2nd box to pop up is the Save Game box. The top field, Game, is the directory where the game will be saved. The 2nd field, Save, is the save name for the game. You MUST use savegame.csg here. For my example, I would use Wld1 for the directory (Game) and savegame.csg for the file name (Save). Now exit CTP completely. To use scenario games, you must cut savegame.csg from the directory where you saved it and paste it into the scenxxxx directory you have set up for this scenario game. You must make the first line of scenario.txt file, in your scenxxxx directory, the exact name you specified in the first Save Scenario As pop up box. Wld1-70x140R in my example. If you don't understand scenario directory structures, read the CTP V1.2 readme.doc file in the \help directory. 8) Scenario Setup Info not in the CTP V1.2 Readme.Doc file. The readme says to create the following structure: \scenarios\your_scenario_name\scen0000 \scenarios\your_scenario_name\scen0000\default \scenarios\your_scenario_name\scen0000\english This works fine if you only want one map or scenario per scenario structure. A better option is to do the following: \scenarios\your_scenario_name\scen0000 \scenarios\your_scenario_name\default \scenarios\your_scenario_name\english This allows you to add more maps or scenarios by simply adding more scenxxxx directories like: \scenarios\your_scenario_name\scen0001 \scenarios\your_scenario_name\scen0002 Be sure and increase the third line of the \scenarios\your_scenario_name\packlist.txt to the number of scenxxxx directories you add.
